Cricket Australia under fire over pregnancy clause : News, Cricket

Australia’s Fair Work Ombudsman is exploring the national cricket board contentious pregnancy clause in contracts provided to elite women gamers.

Cricket Australia was under fire over the clause which required women to announce whether they were pregnant before signing contracts.

“The Player warrants that, to the best of her knowledge, she is not pregnant because at the date of signing this Contract and undertakes that upon becoming aware that she is pregnant, she will notify the particulars of the pregnancy (in writing, where practicable) to the CA health officer (or such other appropriate representative of CA or other individual designated by CA) when reasonably practicable.”

The teams discriminatory of women have contested the clause after being attracted to light during pay negotiations between the board and the players’ association.

The clause was defended by CA because being out of concern for all the health and safety of women.

“Our sole interest in whether one of our girls players is pregnant is to make sure the health of her and her baby, and we’ve got strict rules about health confidentiality,” CA high performance chief Pat Howard said in a statement this week.

“We are very mindful that cricket involves real risk, and we will need to ensure that our healthcare team and players are aware of every aspect that may impact a participant’s health.”

But CA altered its position on Saturday, announcing it would examine its policies and contracts that applied to “maternity, pregnancy leave and carer support” after it had been contacted by the labor watchdog on Friday.

“We will co-operate entirely with the Ombudsman, also welcome their queries as it’s always our goal to offer the ideal support for many of our players,” CA chief executive James Sutherland said in a statement.

Regardless of the probe, Sutherland blamed the players’ institution.

“We’re extremely disappointed that this issue was raised by the ACA (Australian Cricketers Association),” he explained.

“Their former executives were completely involved with negotiating, amending and then agreeing the contract for most girls players at the first half of 2015.

“Since the ACA has proven no objection to this contract, they ought to take responsibility for their role in creating the current policy.”

Salaam Cricket 2017: Shane Warne, Sourav Ganguly Remember old cricket memories and ‘sledge’ each other : Salaam Cricket 2017, News

The Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket 2017 brought together some of their most iconic names in the world world world and there were several anticipated fireworks right through the afternoon, especially when the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Shane Warne came face-to-face with Michael Clarke watching on.

Ganguly had, in 2001, tamed Australia because historical series that the hosts won 2-1 after bouncing back from a defeat in the Wankhede Stadium. It had been in the course of the iconic series that the subsequently Indian captain Ganguly, had got to the Australians’ nerves by slowing the throw.

Sixteen years after, Shane Warne, who had been an essential portion of Steve Waugh’s team, said he was okay with what Ganguly failed in his home turf and believed it was a clever, competitive movement to derail the Aussies by coming from late for the throw.

However, Ganguly, who had been present along with Clarke for the semester titled “Warnie, Pup and Dada” show, hinting that Warne was not as accepting of this strategy back in 2001: “Everytime I came out to bat , he’d toss the ball out leg and remind me to play the game in the right spirit.”

Known for their wit and humour, both Ganguly and Warne kept ‘sledging’ every other since the audience burst into laughter. However, their mutual admiration was palpable.

“I have seen Warne sledge me during. We were searching for different counties and he’d find me come out and he’d sledge me. Even if it had been Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders, he’d come in the throw and start sledging me from there itself. And all this happened for a span of 10 years. But he is a fantastic bowler and the finest I have faced. I have played against Muttiah Muralitharan too and I’m lucky to find some runs contrary to both of these,” Ganguly said.

Warne said he got sledged from Ganguly in equivalent measure.: “Sourav never said a word back – can you feel that ?”

But Warne revealed his admiration for Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag – known as the Fab 5 of Indian cricket and said their contributions towards Indian cricket was immense.

“Don’t ever underestimate how good these guys are – I would much rather bowl to the modern day Indian men than these men. India became one of their greatest sides of the world under Sourav,” Warne said.

Warne said sledging Ganguly created the legendary Indian batsman more determined than ever: “I sledged him believing I could catch him out this time but that just made him more determined. It had been under Sourav which India because one of the greatest sides from one of the better sides because he gave them the strength, the feeling of not moving under any team.”

Clarke, who had captained Australia with fantastic success following Ricky Ponting resigned, said he had been lucky to play the game alongside legends such as Warne and Ganguly.

“The players that I idolised I must play against and with – it is a great illustration of why you play the sport. They were so aggressive on the area. That’s why the sport is indeed unique.

“Shane would constantly want to get Sourav out and Sourav would like to stay and you find this friendship now, this is the way the game (is performed).

“So tournaments such as the Champions Trophy and also the new India-Australia series, there were lotsd of talks of sin and on the friendship between Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. You would like to win and you are so enthusiastic about it. That’s why you play so tough on the area.

“But Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would be no different to these two in 5-10 years after they will be sitting here discussing the good times. Because we’re so aggressive, that’s the reason why we respect each other so much. And thats why I idiolise both.

She came in at No. 7 and slammed an unbeaten 40-ball 63 against Pakistan. Her innings was studded with nine fours and a single highest.
