Nasser Hussain explains the real essence of cricket in candid conversation : Salaam Cricket 2017, News

Nasser Hussain clarifies the actual gist of cricket in frank conversation

Salaam Cricket 2017: Nasser Hussain was part of a session titled World Captains XI and spoke on a range of issues along with a few of the greatest captains in the history of cricket.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain feels the actual gist of cricket is in the game’s ability to continue growing and producing new talent the world over. Speaking at Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket 2017 in the final session branded World Captains XI, Hussain said the debate over if Eden Gardens was the headquarters of Captains or Lord’s. The question has mastered the cricketing area, ever since the development of India as a global superpower in the game.

Many feel Eden Gardens, given its heritage, iconic moments from the game along with the frenzied fan after, deserves to be the Mecca of world cricket as opposed to the hallowed grounds of Lord’s. But the Chennai-born Hussain, one of England’s most successful captains of all time, superbly laid down why he loved the game of cricket.

“It matters not if Eden Gardens or Lord’s is the headquarters of cricket. A little island like Sri Lanka has generated a number of the best cricketers to have ever played the game.

“I don’t recall when was the last time Pakistan played cricket in the home but Misbah-ul-Haq still took them into the peak of the Test positions. That for me is the heart of cricket and also for what cricket does for the rest of the world,” he said.

Hussain headed England with distinction for four years from 1999 to 2003 and has been leader in 45 of those 96 Tests he performed overall. Under his direction, England appeared as a difficult unit.

On Wednesday, Hussain had been part of a session at Salaam Cricket which also had together with him Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sunil Gavaskar, Kumar Sangakkara, Rameez Raja, Aamer Sohail, Graeme Smith, Brendon McCullum and Habibul Bashar.

Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput has long-term vision for Test cricket : Cricket, News

Highlights

  • It Places them in an elite Set of 12 sides Allowed to compete in the longest Type of the Sport

  • He Had Been Appointed head coach of Afghanistan in June This past Year

  • Afghanistan Created a stellar debut from the 50-over World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015

While Afghanistan celebrate their lofty status as a Test-playing nation, far from Mumbai, head coach Lalchand Rajput is busy plotting how to lure a five-day nature into a team much more attuned to this hard-hitting nature of limited-overs cricket.

Cricket gained popularity in Afghanistan once refugees living in Pakistan after fleeing a homeland ravaged from the Soviet-Afghan War took the sport house with them in the 1990s.

“it is a great accomplishment for them. Every country would love to get referred to as a Test-playing country,” former India cricketer Rajput told Reuters in an interview.

“They’ve been working hard for the past couple of years. And this is the benefit which they got after consistently performing, especially the previous year has been very great.

“We started beating Test sides, we conquer Zimbabwe, we conquer Ireland. It is a significant thing for the sport in Afghanistan and its people. They are so enthusiastic about cricket there”

A former Mumbai batsman with a superior average of near 50, Rajput was manager of the India team who won the World Twenty20 in 2007.

In June last year, he was appointed head coach of Afghanistan, replacing former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

“Everybody was waiting for this particular ICC meeting to occur,” Rajput, who played two Tests and four ODIs for India, stated on Friday.

“They were really excited that now they will be called Test players. Every cricketer’s dream would be to become a Test cricketer, that is the actual test. That can be a big, huge thing for them.”

Having previously played in multiple World Twenty20 events, the Oriental side produced a stellar debut in the 50-over World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

They also have been striking from the Intercontinental Cupand also a superior competition for partner members.

“This is a huge obstacle. Being from Mumbai, we realize this attitude of ‘khadoos’ (stubbornness) in the area’s cricketers which must be imbibed from the Afghanistan players,” that the 55-year-old Rajput added.

“Since you must get a price on your own wicket, you can’t toss your wicket readily. Plus the temperamental element, the emotional toughness you realize. And playing big innings, that is very, very important.”

Rajput believes that the Afghan gamers are natural tough hitters of the ball and his occupation is to make them understand the requirement to spend time in the middle instead of chasing fast runs.

“In the Intercontinental Cup we was able to get out early, the maximum score was 250-300. However, this year we played against Ireland and you will be amazed we have within 500 runs for eight wickets declared,” he said.

“The captain (Asghar Stanikzai) obtained 145 and another guy got several hundred. So they are getting into the mode of scoring big hundredsof dollars. Slowly and steadily we will be there, we will improve.

“I can’t change it immediately, it will take some time. But we’re going in that direction”

Turning to matters with the ball, ” 18-year-old leg-spinner Rashid Khan looks a real potential and that he took 7/18 in a one-dayer against West Indies after a strong showing in the previous edition of this Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament.

Former captain and off-spinner Mohammad Nabi also gained exposure to the planet’s leading batsmen as Rashid’s team mate at the IPL’s Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise.

“We have the bowling. However, we must look at alternatives as well because in Test cricket you require people to take 20 wickets,” the coach added.

“In one-day cricket you have to bowl tight. Therefore the mindset must be to accept wickets as opposed to bowling tight.

“We’ve got yet another left-arm wrist-spinner. I saw him playing to your under-19s and stated ‘I need him’.

“Slowly I can make him play games and give him confidence so that he gets better and plays with the one-day format consistently. Just like Rashid, he is also a wicket-taking bowler.”

Indian fans need to show more respect to their cricket stars : Cricket, News

Highlights

  • The attendance at the stadiums for Test matches in India is Usually very poor

  • Stadiums are filled to capacity during ODIs along with the IPL

  • India and England are playing the third Test of the Show in Mohali

So much was mentioned about the dwindling interest in Test cricket in India?

Experts have wondered if pink-ball Test suits would get the audiences back and they have in their collective wisdom thought of approaches to garner more numbers on benches across various stadia. (SCORECARD)

The game is for the fans, its most valuable stakeholders. But the fans are not above the game, rich in its history and legacy. (Mohali Test, Day 4: Live Blog)

Fans throng counters and ask everyone they know remotely associated with cricket for passes and tickets for the IPL. Through the World T20, I got calls from at least 20 of my neighbours for tickets. I was astonished about 19 of them had some interest in the game. (What occurs when Kohli walks out to bat in a Indian stadium? )

But that is how it is in India now. Cricket matches are where you wish to be seen. A T20 game is glamorous, ODIs with its horizontal pitches can be fun. However, Test cricket is a different ball game entirely. Few will invest time and energy to sit through 15 sessions.

The first three days of the Mohali Test from the stands have been demonstrating. The couple who bothered to purchase the extremely reasonable tickets have started to see sixes, fours and wickets. Not for them the intense sessions of drama, not for them is India’s disciplined bowling or Virat Kohli’s gutsy area placements.

Fans at Mohali want to see sixes, fours and wickets. (Reuters Photo)

They believe the shortage of close-in fielders is defensive play. They feel Ravindra Jadeja thwarting England’s negative aims with the ball is dull. On Day 3, when he left these broad deliveries from Ben Stokes alone outside the off stump, fans pulled him and accused him of boring them. It is another matter that Jadeja’s written innings helped India hammer up possibly a match winning lead. It is another matter that Jadeja likely played with a string turning innings and deflated England’s spirits. (Jonny Bairstow and 2016, a love affair to Recall)

The Indian lover wants high octane action and worth for his cash. That isn’t how you like Test cricket. For people who love the game, it can be dispiriting to observe the invigorating passage of drama with this kind of a lot that has such a superficial vision of this game.

Another remarkable thing about Indian fans is that their lack of respect for their own players. Sure they love Kohli and Jadeja and Ashwin but they are not entertainers at a circus.

They are cricketers that are plying their trade at the highest degree. Shouts of “Jaddu idhar dekh” (Jaddu appear here), Shami haath hila (Shami wave at us), and comparable one liners for their colleagues are disconcerting. They are your gamers, playing for you. While the love and adulation is understandable, it’s disconcerting to see these pitiable attitude.

Besides, that impacts the concentration of gamers in the center of a heated struggle.

In contrast, England’s Barmy Army is a extension of the team. They applaud generously and moan and groan with their own players. They do not shout out indignities to their own fielders following a slide up. In reality, there were instances of senior England cricketers asking Barmy Army leaders to target specific cricketers from the opposition.

There are obligations as fans. They are the absolute most significant cog in the wheel however, the gamers deserve respect. They are not puppets and they’re not expected to dance at the whims of poorly behaved spectators from the gallery.

Indian fans have been spectacular for the most part in history but they still have a lot to do for this game.
