Cricket Australia offer players a New deal in bid to end pay dispute : News, Cricket

Highlights

  • Is really a long-standing arrangement that offers the players a fixed proportion of the game’s revenue.

  • Australia cricketers face being hammered out unless a brand new MoU is struck by CA and the Australian Cricketers’ Association.

  • CA says the arrangement prevents them.

Cricket Australia (CA) has provided players a revised cover in an attempt to end a bitter dispute on a revenue-sharing model with only a week to go until the current deal expires.

Australia’s best cricketers face being hammered out unless a fresh memorandum of understanding is struck between CA and the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) before the end of the month.

At the heart of the dispute is really a long-standing arrangement that offers the players a fixed proportion of the revenue of the sport prevents them from investing in the grassroots.

The new offer was produced by CA Executive General Manager Kevin Roberts in a letter to Alistair Nicholson.

“Player feedback implies that the consumption of global cricket surpluses with female and male domestic players and the degree of pay rises for male condition players are crucial issues for them,” Roberts wrote in the letter published on the CA website.

“We are therefore writing to indicate that CA is ready to address these issues to help achieve a new MOU.”

Until the impasse ends the forthcoming Australia A tour of South Africa, also a show in Bangladesh and a limited-overs excursion of India are under threat with the Ashes looming in the end of the year.

ACA President Greg Dyer said that it had been time for mediation.

“The present discussions between the Australian Cricketers’ Association and Cricket Australia have failed to achieve a rest through,” Dyer said.

“With only seven days until the June 30 deadline, the ACA calls for crisis mediation to be run in CEO level.

“For this, the ACA continues to look for ways to resolve the dispute. We’re inspired by a feeling of responsibility into the game and its players and frustration in the current process.”

Dyer added that a range of “common sense and reasonable requests” was rejected by CA, including the release of financial information and predictions.

“The players are completely united behind the ACA in these negotiation conditions,” Australia captain Steve Smith said on Friday at a video posted by the ACA on Twitter.

“We all know that they are working incredibly tough for all of us to receive the best result for the game.”
