09:37 IST: 9.3: L Gamage into Vijay, No run. The commentators on atmosphere talk roughly the requirement of Murali Vijay as an opener at the team. He is somebody who can correct in any format of this game. In regards to cricket he’s played with some aggressive T20 innings, he’s shown immense patience. Therefore, to sum it up he is somebody a team can rely on.

09:35 IST: LAHIRU GAMAGE to keep in the opposite end. Same field placement for him. Vijay is unhappy with some movement behind the bowler’s arm and therefore a small delay.

09:30 IST: 8.1: S Lakmal to M Vijay, FOUR. Vijay doesn’t need second invite. Such a confident looking shot that’s. My colleague just reminded me that, KL Rahul began the Indian innings with a boundary and today Vijay does the exact same. Lakmal provides it complete and a little wide outside off, Murali leans ahead and presents complete face of the bat to throw it throughout covers. It melts off to the fence at a jiffy.

09:25 IST: We’re set to get punished. Even the umpires and players have made their own exit to the middle. CHETESHWAR PUJARA AND MURALI VIJAY will continue from where they left off. It shall be SURANGA LAKMAL to start off with the bowling proceedings.

09:22 IST: PITCH REPORT – Sunil Gavaskar says there’s a little bit of grass on the wicket which will keep the pacers interested from the very first hour. Further adds the cracks might start to open as the game progresses. He adds the very best way will be to use your toes, get to the pitch of the ball and counter whatever is thrown at you. Simon Doull agrees and states that it is a beautiful day for batting and the batters will need to take whole benefit of it since the pitch will start to take a growing number of turn in the future.

India bowlers dominated proceedings on the opening day of the second Test with Ravichandran Ashwin catching four wickets and three wickets each to Ravindra Jadeja and comeback-man Ishant Sharma.

After bowling out Sri Lanka to get a mere 205, onus is now on the Indian batsmen to keep with the fantastic work. India were 11/1 at the end of play yesterday but they’d have liked to proceed without losing a wicket. Murali Vijay, who’s also making a comeback after a very long gap, was unbeaten on two while Cheteshwar Pujara was likewise not out about two.

Batting is certainly not going to be simple with this track and the hosts will hope to bat once and bat big.

Things were not looking so awful for the Lankans when they had been 160/4. Nevertheless, they were blown off by Ashwin and Jadeja. Dickwella’s wicket just triggered a meltdown and then it was only one-way traffic.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the people once again kicked it away and finally folded out to get a scanty 205 towards the close of the day. They had to come out and bowl for 8 overs and are happy of the fact they eliminated Rahul. It was quite clear that the pitch is not a real one which means even the Indians have their job cut out.

For all the stat fans – On 10 occasions in India, a team has gone on to win a Test match after scoring 205 or less at the first innings. 3 of these have been by visiting teams. The previous time we had a Test match at this place India defeated South Africa in spite of submitting just 215 from the first innings. Sri Lanka may take a leaf from the and develop a head set to keep chipping away at the wickets. What do we have in store? Will the Lankans be made to work hard beneath the sun or is it the other way around?
